Week 17-19

My oh my, What a crazy couple of weeks. Know I am behind on doing the blog, but I am determined to staying on top of the thing weekly.

I did get some stuff accomplished:

I adopted 3 angels from the Salvation Army: 10 yo girl, 10 yo boy and 4 yo boy. Bought them each a jammy set and a toy from their list.

I gave $2.85 to two people on the street that asked for some money.

I drank a $50 bottle of wine with my good friend Michele. She is also a wine aficionado. She picked the bottle out at dinner and we enjoyed it together. I would not have wanted to complete this task with anyone else but her!!

Went to a Saints game in Tampa. November 22 brought a road trip to Tampa and a win for the Saints. We are on our way to the Superbowl and a perfect season. Who Dat!!!

Gave Mark a foot rub after he spent a weekend pulling brush on the potential new disc golf course site. We was tired and needed it desperately!!

Read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Kiddie, I know--but the book was well over 750 pages!!

I entertained John and Cathy for dinner. I made authentic Chinese dishes in honor of our trip to China. It was an amazing meal and it will go into my Favorite Recipes folder for future use. Also hosted a football night with Mike, Tracey and Erin in attendance. We watched the Saints pummel the Pats and enjoyed cajun sausage, peppers, onions and homemade fries--YUM!!!

Mark got 2 more love notes. Both simply said RAWR, which is dinosaur for I Love You. Left on on a posty note on his computer and one in his mileage book in the car.

Watched 3 more movies on the list:
Rear Window--Wicked good!!
Gold Diggers of 1933--We're in the money!!
Casablanca--Hello, it is a classic!!

Put more cash in the mortgage fund and the Roth IRA fund. Will probably jump on these two and take them to the next step.

Still drinking water, flossing and turning the water off.

Next week I will be on time---I promise

Week Eight

With the wedding less than two weeks away, I still managed to get alot done this week:

1. I finished reading "Hammer of the Gods:The Led Zepplin Saga". Uber good read. It gave great insight to the rock lifestyle during that time. I have a fascination with Zepplin out of nowhere, so this was a great book. Peter Grant was a beast!! I am starting on the next book "In the Hands of the Seneca". It is about a group of settlers taken by the Seneca Indians. The book was my mother's when she was growing up, so it is sentimental as well. #8

2. I gave another dollar to a guy in the Publix Parking lot. He reminded me that my wallet was still in the cart as I walked away from it in the parking lot. There are still good people out there. He told me that he had no money for gas, so I gave him what I had. It was only a dollar in change in the center console. I did not have that much, but what I had I gave him. I need to start carrying small bills around with me for this reason. #72

3. I listened to a mad ton of cd's this week. We are compiling our wedding songs and I am listening as I upload them to the computer:
-105.9 WCXR Classics Vol. 1--Great classic song cd--Layla,Journey to the Center of the Mind, Magic Carpet Ride, She came in Through the Bathroom Window, Gimme Some Lovin', All Right Now, Ramblin' Man, You Really Got Me, Dirty Water, Wild Thing, You Wear it Well, A Whiter Shade of Pale.
-The Police-Every Breath You Take, The Classics: Hello, it's Sting. Doesn't Suck
-The Honey Drippers-Volume 1: This album features Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and Jeff Beck in this really cool 1950's-esque tribute. Beautiful album, but very short-only 5 songs.
-Heart-Greatest Hits: Any record that has Barracuda on it is fine by me.
-Led Zepplin-In Through the Out Door: Was this by Zepplin? Then it is awesome.
-Pink Floyd-The Wall: This album has special meaning to me for various reasons that I don't care to post for the world to see. However, this is the first time I recall listening to the whole thing front to back. Memories, like the corner of my mind ....
-The Yardbirds-Blues, Backtracks and Shapes of Things, Vol.2-This was heaven to hear. I love the raw sound that the band captured. Also the "downhome" blues was stunning. Being from the Mississippi Gulf Coast, good blues is good to hear. Loved it!!
-The Monkees-Greatest Hits: I sang Hey Hey, We're the Monkees for the rest of the day. Does anyone remember the TV show? "People say we monkey around"

I think that list is done for the week. #74

4. Still flossing daily, turning the water off during the shower and drinking the water everyday.

It seems like I did more. I guess that CD list took up alot of the time.

Next week will be the last update for 1 month. I am getting hitched on 9/12 and then off to China for 3 weeks. I will keep track of the things I am doing and post when I return.

See you soon--

Week Seven

What did I do last week?

#6 is done. Although I do have to give mad credit to my mother. Ever since the car accident, my neck and shoulders have not been able to handle repetitive behaviors. So Mom was down for the wedding shower and I asked if she would help me paint in preparation for the wedding. To my surprise and relief, she offered to do them completely. I did help. I painted two cabinets and was told never to paint again. Thanks Mom--they look amazing!!

I started on #4. I framed and hung some pics of my nephews, cousins and my friends. It is not filled yet, but it is a start.

#7, painting the trim, is almost complete. We did most of the house and cleaned the rest. I will paint when I have the mobility to move freely.

I got a library card. So cross #43 off of the list. Mom and I went in between vendor meetings while she was here. We needed to blow about 30 minutes and the downtown branch was right there. It was quick, easy and painless. It has been years since I have been in a library. It was a lot bigger than I would have thought. Granted, it is the main branch for the city, but it is huge!!

I gave $5.00 to a gentleman on the street that needed it more than I did.

No cd's this week but I will have a lot for next week. Gotta get the wedding music together--

See you soon

Linda

Week six

This past week was very productive:

#29--added one more event this week. I had lunch with my good friend Michelle down at the 903. We don't get to see each other very often because she lives quite a ways from me, so it was fun to get together. I also had dinner with Louise. She called to say hi and we started talking about the fender bender and she immediately came over and brought dinner in an effort to "take care of me". Too sweet. So that marks off the two for the month.

#35--wrote a love note to Mark in grade school style--big puffy letters, doodles, and hearts. I folded it like a paper airplane and tossed it to him while he was at the computer. He doodled and sent it back to me via airmail.

Also got one more foot rub in for Mark. He came back from his disc golf tourney and had the sore foot. I rubbed and rubbed and rubbed all the pain away. This one lasted a little longer and it was not so bad on my end either. So, add another hash mark to #36.

I watched another movie from AFI's list. I am uber busy right now with wedding stuff, so watching movies is a luxury. I did squeeze in High Noon. Why hello Gary Cooper. Great flick and interesting story. The cool thing is that the movie is shot in real time. This flick had it all--romance and gunfights and horses and the Gary Cooper theme song and saloon drinking and a barn fire and drunk dude in jail. What more could you ask for? Also of note, Lloyd Bridges and Grace Kelly were also featured.

While I have not learned any songs on the guitar, I did learn to tune it this week and how string pressure changes the sounds. So stepping in the right direction on that front.

Cd's that I listened to this week include:

ZZ Top greatest hits--So I like me some ZZ Top. I think Billy Gibbons has a saucy singing voice. Most of the songs were cool, but there were some pop-y shark-jumpers. I forgive them and still enjoyed the cd.

AM Gold-1971--This is a compilation CD of the songs that were hot in the year of 1971. It was a fun CD to listen to with some great songs. I knew most of them and had fun listening.

Maybe I will be on time next week with the posting. Darn wedding is time consuming!!

Week five

Yes, I know--Late again. Time is precious as we get closer to the wedding. Taking even 10 minutes to update seems challenging. Plus, I did not feel like I got a lot done this week, so I was not in a rush to come write about what a loser I was. But then I realized that no matter how little I do, I need to write it down here. With that being said, let's talk about what I did do last week.

I started #7. I painted the two archways in the house and the connecting trim. I would say that I am about 45% done. I might get frisky and try to finish before the wedding. Right, that is a pipe dream. At least I started.

#49 gets a big hash mark next to it. I went down to the local blood bank and donated some blood. Saved a couple of lives. This is huge for me because I hate, hate, hate needles!!

I am also halfway to #38!! I checked my comments today to find that I have inspired someone to start this challenge. Props to Rachael!! I will cross #38 off when her list gets published on a blog or www.dayzeroproject.com. Can't wait to see it Rachael!

And that is it. Told you is was scary this past week. Like I said, with the wedding one month away, everything seems to be spiraling and time-consuming.

More update later...

week four

I know I am late getting this week updated. The weekend was long and full of manual labor.

A couple of things did get the big, gratifying checkmark!!

--Develop data base for friends/family birthdays and anniversaries, #2, done and done. I found a calendar function in my excel program. I can go by month and list all the days. Super convenient and it took 2 minutes to set it up and about 15 minutes to fill it in. I will add dates as they come to my attention.

--July 31st was a memorable day. Mark and I had our first dark night, #18. It was amazing. We cooked an entire dinner on the grill--pork chops, beans, corn. We played Life by candlelight. I lost. We played a lot of card games--Gin rummy(I lost), Liverpool Rummy(I lost), and Slap Jack(Mark never played this before but still beat me). It was a consious effort to not turn on a light as we went from room to room. Mark did turn on one light for a half a second. He said you could hear me in the next county screaming to turn the light off. We also unplugged all the chargers. The computers got shut down. We did not turn the monitors/speakers off right away because we did not notice they were still on. Bottom line, we got 80% of the electricity off which is a good effort for the first time. We will be at 100% in August.

--July 31 also saw #64 completed. Mark was sodding the yard and I was doing light yard work. The sky opened up and we got drenched. Mark was adamant about finishing the tilling, so I walked beside him with an umbrella in an attempt to keep the torrential downpour off of him. He got to the point of stopping and the monsoon was in full effect. We went to the backyard and started to take off shoes and socks to not track in water. I figured, What the Heck!! We started splashing in the "Lake". We had such a good time. We played for about 45 minutes. We splashed each other, jumped, played disc golf and ran in the rain. The water was surprisingly warm so it made for a great rewind moment back to childhood!!

CD's I listened to this week:
-Bonham, The Disregard of Timekeeping--I get that is the great John Bonham's son, so I expected a little more rock. I thought it was very pop. His skills are amazing though, just like his father
-Bongo Hate, Plastastic--I have no other words except for Horrible.
-Boxcar Prophets, Little Tortures--Ok, sounded more like christian rock than regular rock
-Alice in Chains, Unplugged--Heck to the Yeah!! Album is amazing
-The B-52's, Time Capsule--The album is just good, clean fun.
-Bush, Sixteen Stone--Excellent
-Doyle Bramhall, Change it--Bluesy and catchy

Still flossing, drinking water and turning water off in the shower--so no change there.

Put more money in the mortgage fund, #5. That is up to $200. Also, I added to the savings fund, #101, up to $600.

Keep you posted

Week three

I did a lot this week, but I still did not cross anything completely off the list. At least I am on my way.

Mark and I watched two more movies on the AFI list. We were entertained with Double Indemnity. Excellent flick. The one thing I love about these old movies is the dialect. There are some fantastic lines and innuendos littered throughout the entire movie. Nothing is canned and predictable. Even the camera work is fabulous. Directors used every camera angle possible and really took advantage of the lighting. I have learned that I will take an old classic over a CGI-filled flick any day. My new word of the week is dame.

We also watched A Streetcar Named Desire. Marlon Brando delivered an amazing performance along with some memorable lines. He is also a fox. Two enthusiastic thumbs way up!!

Listened to:
Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop with Terry Bozzio and Tony Hymas--good until they started doing this talk-over thing. At that point, it got weird.
Arc Angels-Kinda bluesy and bubblegum at the same time. I did not think that was possible, but I stand corrected. There was not the gravel, growl voice that I would associate with the blues. It was slightly pedestrian.
Boston--It was Boston, what else can I say?
Boston, Don't look Back--see above comment.
Blind Dog, Dark Eyes--Another blues band. This one had more soul, so I dug it more.
Blue Oyster Cult, Spectres--So someone will probably flame me for this, but this album put me to sleep. Godzilla was good, but everything else was making me want to shut my eyes.
Army of Anyone--This album did not stand out to me, but it did not suck either

Continuing with the new regimen of flossing, drinking water, and turning water off while showering. Nothing new on that front--just maintaining.

I did 50 consecutive situps on the Bender Ball, #14. My chiropractor had a couple of choice words concerning that activity. Apparently, doing sit-ups is uber bad for my whiplash, so I will have to move that one down to a later date. Good thing I have 3 years!!

The beginnings of a vegetable garden are beginning to take hold, #24. I have two tomato plants that are sprouting high and one bean plant that somehow survived my black thumb last spring. Who knew? I am going to move the garden to a different area of the back yard. The current location is getting water-logged from the run-off on the roof. At any rate, it is not a full garden, but it is starting.

I had lunch/coffee with two friends this month. My friend Bill on the 20th and my friend Michelle on the 15th. That makes me 1 out of 33!

Started reading The Hammer of the Gods: The Led Zepplin Saga this week. I just realized recently that I like Led Zepplin, so this is a good read for me.

Catch you next week.....

Week two

So week two proved to be somewhat fruitful. Still drinking 3 bottles of water and flossing every day and turning the water off in the shower while soaping, shaving, shampooing and conditioning. I have not missed a day yet and I have actually established a fairly regular schedule concerning these three things.

CD's that were listened to:
Aerosmith, Pump--excellent
Audioslave, Out of Exile--excellent
Audioslave, Audioslave--good, but not as strong as Out of Exile
At the Drive-in, Relationship of Command--not my thing, alot of screaming
ACDC, Back in Black--excellent

I finished the first book on my list, One Flew Over the Cuck00's Nest. Uber excellent read. I can't wait to watch the flick. It is on AFI's top 100, so it is a must see. It would be a definite re-read.

Speaking of AFI's Top 100 Movies, we watched On the Waterfront with Marlon Brando. He is so young in this movie. You almost don't recognize him. Then he starts talking and there is no doubt. Also did not realize that Fred Gwynne has a bit part with two speaking lines. He is best known for playing Hermann Munster and if you blink you will miss him in this flick. He is first seen in the backroom of the bar lumbering his large frame in a small chair and you see him instantly. Mark saw him first.

Mark got his first footrub(shudder). I don't like feet, so we took the first one slowly. It lasted about 10 minutes on each foot and then I had to stop. His toes were sore after playing a disc golf tourney over the weekend, so I thought I would throw him a bone. He said I did a swell job, so he expects more. I told him one a month. #36

Speaking of Mark, he also received his first love note. I hid it in his bag that he took to the tournament. #35

I also stared putting money away for the savings account, #101, and the extra principal payment on the mortgage, #5.

That is about it for this week. Tune in next week. Same battime, same batchannel....

Week one

So week one is coming to a close and all is well.
As you can see, the blog is set up now. That is the first completed task. Felt good to mark something off the list.

I have started a couple of things on the list. #19-drink 3 bottles of water daily and #87-floss daily have been done, well, everyday.

Started reading the first book of 40, One flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

Mark got his first foot rub #36. This is going to be a big one for me to complete. I hate hate hate feet!!

Listened to Paula Abdul(not sure how that got in the collection), 3 Aerosmith albums, ACDC this week #74. Again, this will be a huge task as Mark has like 10,000 cd's in his collection. That is a fib, but he has a ton of music. It is a little overwhelming. At least, with the exception of Paula, he has outstanding taste. I will be enjoying a lot of classic rock over the next 3 years.

So, making progress. Starting a lot of things and once we get past the wedding, I will be able to really move forward with the completion percentage.

Tune in next week for .............Week 2!!

Monday, July 6, 2009

So it begins

So the object is simple. Complete 101 tasks in 1001 days. It breaks down to 1 item completed every 10 days. Obviously, some tasks will take longer than that. Other items--not so much.

I have every intent of completing this inaugural list in 1001 days. Time will tell if it was too ambitious to undertake.

I am looking forward to attempting everything. I guess we will see if 1001 days can have an impact.
